Westgate Basketball Association would like to invite all interested players to register for the Westgate Imperials representative basketball tryouts for the 2021/2022 season. Tentative dates for the tryouts are October 8, 10, 15 & 17. Times and locations will be confirmed when covid restrictions ease.
Westgate Imperials is a newer representative club in the Victorian Junior Basketball League and will be selecting both boys and girls teams for U12s, U14s, U16s and U18s. (U20s Tryouts to happen at a later date). (not sure what age group your child is? Check the age eligibility page)
If you're new to representative basketball, please take the time familiarise yourself with the Imperials Basketball program and the commitment to playing in the Victorian Junior Basketball League
We recognise it's been a long time since athletes participated in any kind of competitive sport. Our Director of Coaching has created a session plan for tryouts including warm ups and cool downs, and sufficient rest time in an effort to reduce any strain on players. Time on court for this year’s tryouts has also been reduced.
Unfortunately, players undertaking the Imperials tryout process are not guaranteed a position in any team.
Successful players will be notified, on the Monday post the completion of tryouts. Teams may not be finalised until after the first phase of VJBL grading.
If you wish to receive feedback on non selection, please request via firstname.lastname@example.org, and our senior coaching team will provide feedback as soon as possible.
If you have previously played in the VJBL for another association, you will need to get permission from your current association to tryout at Westgate.
Players wishing to obtain ‘Permission to Train’ at another association must contact their current association. Your current association contact will then email Westgate that you are wishing to train with. You will be cc’d in on the email.
Associations will have 3 business days to send the email due to Association staff working on limited hours or the contact being a volunteer.
Any questions, please regarding permission to train, please contact email@example.com
In line with covid-19 government and Basketball Victoria guidelines, we need to ensure 20 players per court. Therefore this year, Westgate basketball has been required to hire more courts, across more hours, and this is the reason for the s registration fee. The registration cost covers court hire and playhq transaction fees, no profit is made.
Tryouts can be a nervous time for many players, especially players who have not yet played representative basketball. To create an “even playing field”, we ask that players don’t wear their rep uniform. Please note, domestic uniforms are fine to wear.
There is an exemption process for players who are injured or are away during the tryout period. Please note, an approved exemption does not guarantee a player of position in a team. An exempt player’s known skill level, will be assessed amongst players who have participated in tryouts. If you would like to apply for an exemption, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
