Intro basketball for boys and girls aged 5 to 10 years
Aussie Hoops is the Basketball Australia's Official Junior Game Development Program for 5-10 year olds and their families & now sponsored by Ford Australia.
Aussie Hoops provides an environment where children of all abilities can achieve on the court and reap the rewards of skill development, enhanced self-esteem, social co-operation and grassroots sports participation. The program provides boys and girls with a fun and safe Basketball experience that serves as an introduction to a lifetime of involvement in the game.
The Aussie Hoops program at Westgate is a fun and engaging way for kids to learn the skills and rules of basketball, allowing them to confidently move into playing in our junior Domestic competition

Cost: for 8 sessions - $104 plus admin fees **** if you miss any sessions make sure you contact aussiehoops@westgatebasketball.com.au to organise a make up class on alternate days.

Age groups
5 to 7 year old sessions
These sessions are developed as an introductory program that ensures all participants develop the fundamental skills to participate in and draw satisfaction from Basketball.
7 to 10 year old sessions
These sessions are for 7 year olds who already have basic skills or for 8 to 10 year olds who are just starting. More game type drills will be introduced in getting this age ready to sign up to play in a team.
NOTE: although our registrations state participants up to 10 years old, we do accept older participants who do not yet play in a team.

Justin Cassidy - Victorian Coach of the Year 2025
Westgate Basketball's very own Justin Cassidy is Victoria Aussie Hoops Coach of the Year - 2025. Justin has been coaching Aussie Hoops at Westgate since he was 14 years old. Justin now approaching his final years of university study has coached 100s of kids at Westgate over the years, helping them to find joy in the game and the basics of fundamentals.
We couldnt be prouder of Justin as a young person who gives so much to our basketball community. Justin is a referee, supervisor, junior domestic and vjbl coach. Thanks for all that you do for the kids Justin!
