POSITIONS AVAILABLE

We are currently recruiting for the various roles to fill our Game Day Team for the 2025 Big V season at Westgate. 

In our first season of the Big V last year, Westgate has made a name for ourselves for putting on a really professional and fun game day, and we plan to up the professionalism again this year.

We are also introducing a second Westgate team - our Youth Women's Team (yay!) which will see us host approximately 20 home games across the season (10 Youth League Womens, 10 Youth League Mens) and then finals.  

The Season: Mid-March to End-August 

Westgate Games are either on a Saturday evening or during the day on a Sunday. Applicants are still welcome to apply if they are only interested in one of these time slots.

Your cover letter should let us know why you want to have a role in the BigV Game day team and also why you would be well suited to the role you are applying for.

Cut off dates for applications are as follows:

• Scorers and Stats: 5pm, Tuesday 21st January 2025. (A short lead time as we will need to get you qualified and trained up asap). 

• All other roles: 5pm, Sunday 2nd February 2025. 

Please apply as soon as possible as Westgate Basketball reserves the right to close off the opportunity to apply earlier than this if we have found enough suitable applicants. 

You will be contacted no later than the day after the application deadline with news of whether you have been invited for an interview. 

Note: All roles will report to the Westgate Game Day Manager. 

Door Manager

Age: 15+

Pay:  

1 Game (3-3.5 hours): $70

2 Games Back-to-Back (5-5.5 hours) : $120

Responsibilities

• Stadium Set up 
• Sell Tickets 
• Sell Merch 
• Stationed in the lobby throughout the game to help with late comers and access to locked team rooms
• Assist Game Day Manager as needed
• Stadium Pack up
• Give friendly and warm service to all game day attendees. 

Video Manager

Age: 15+

Pay:  

1 Game (3-3.5 hours): $80

2 Games Back-to-Back (5-5.5 hours) : $140

Responsibilities

• Stadium Set up 
• Sell Tickets 
• Film Game
• Stadium Pack up
• Film game in accordance with Big V Requirements
• Upload Video File to Basketball Victoria

Game Announcer 

Age: 17+

Pay:  

1 Game (3 hours): TBC - inline with experience

2 Games Back-to-Back (5 hours) : TBC - inline with experience

Responsibilities: 

• Stadium Audio Tech Set Up (need to be tech savvy)
• Announce Game per Basketball Victoria rules 
• Play music before and during the games (byo laptop with it cued up and organised)
• Get the crowd excited
• Help to coordinate and commentate on crowd games at game breaks.

Game Statistics 

Age: 15+

Pay:  

1 Game (2-2.5 hours): $40-$50 Depending on role/level

2 Games Back-to-Back (4-5 hours) : $80-$100

There are two roles on the stats bench - a caller and someone who inputs the stats that the caller calls out into the computer. The two work as a team and are on the whole game. Stats are really important to teams (and players) and they need to be correct. Each coach will receive a print out from you after each quarter to help them make decisions on how the game is going. 

Westgate will organise all of your training. You will need to do a Basketball Victoria course and associated testing. You will go through a process where you will work practice matches and buddy up with more experienced stats people for a while. We don't expect you to be working on your own until you are ready. 

Responsibilities: 

You don't need to have any stats experience but you do need to: 

• Have an advanced knowledge and understanding of basketball
• Have great attention to detail 
• Have great focus 
• Be able to handle a lot going on at the same time and keep up. 
• Be great under pressure
• Be great working with a teammate
• Be comfortable with speaking to (and being accountable to) those in high up positions in the game (coaches, refs, team managers etc).   

Game Scorers

Age: 15+

Pay:  

1 Game (2-2.5 hours): $40-$50 Depending on role/level

2 Games Back-to-Back (4-5 hours) : $80-$100

There are four roles on the scorers bench - a paper scorer, a visuals scorer, a shot clock scorer, a game time/commissioner scorer. The four work as a team and are on the whole game. Scoring roles are really important to teams (and players) and they need to be correct. 

Westgate will organise all of your training. You will need to do a Basketball Victoria course and associated testing. You will go through a process where you will work practice matches and buddy up with more experienced score people for a while. We don't expect you to be working on your own until you are ready. 

Responsibilities: 

You don't need to have any scorers experience but you do need to: 

• Have an advanced knowledge and understanding of basketball
• Have great attention to detail 
• Have great focus 
• Be able to handle a lot going on at the same time and keep up. 
• Be great under pressure
• Be great working with a team mates
• Be comfortable with speaking to (and being accountable to) those in high up positions in the game (coaches, refs, team managers etc).   

Floor Wipers 

Age: 11+

Pay:  

1 Game (1.5 hours): $15

2 Games Back-to-Back (3.5 hours) : $30

Responsibilities: 

• You will be in charge of running on to the court after a fall, and at every time out and game break and making sure that the court is free from any drops of liquid that might be dangerous to the players and refs on the court. 
• There are two floor wipers, one on each end of the court. 
• You need to be confident to run on when needed and to do a really thorough job. 
• No experience needed. 

Westie - Westgates Mascot

Age: 15+

Pay:  

1 Game (2 hours): $50

2 Games Back-to-Back (4 hours) : $100

We are on the lookout for the right person to be Westgate’s very first Mascot - Westie. Westie won’t need to be at every home game, only some key ones. 

We would love for the person that is going to bring Westie to life to have some fun ideas about Westie’s vibe/personality/skills and to drive this themselves. Check out @rupertredback for some inspo. 

Westgate will sort out your costume in conjunction with you. 

Westies Responsibilities: 

• Engage with attendees and especially small kids at the game and increase their enjoyment attending. 
• Be involved with ¼, ½, ¾ time games with members of the crowd. 
• Sit on the sidelines to watch the game on the Westgate side and help rev up the crowd at key moments. 
• Have some kind of a signature talent/move (bonus points if there are drums or flips or something like it involved!). 
• Be comfortable filming some social media content. 
• Be professional when engaging with the costume (eg. dont break character in public). 
• Be fun and outgoing.
